Abstract

The aim of this study is the Environmental risk management of Madkansar Mine in Khorambid County in Fars Province using EFMEA and William Fine integrated approach. The Environmental Failure Modes & Effects Analysis and William Fine method were used to investigate the risks of the mine. initially, the mining activities and the associated environmental impactswere identified to determine the scope of the study. Subsequently, with an emphasis on the environment, health and safety aspects, risk related factors were identified and listed in a separate worksheet of the William Fine and EFMEA methods. According to the results obtained from EFMEA method, “product manufacturing", with a risk priority number of 96, was found as the most risky activity. The same activity, with a risk priority number of 360, was also recognized for the William Fine method, which is also at a high level of risk. Finally, some strategies were proposed for risk management in ore mining. The most important of which include evaluation of safety mechanisms, and determination of operational privacy, establish of HSE Management Unit in the mine, online measurement and remove of dust, monitoring of air pollutants and equivalent sound level, air monitoring, the use of appropriate storage tanks for wastewater, and implementation of waste management programes in Madkansar Iron Ore Mine.
