Abstract

Dense medium cyclone is one of the important devices especially in the pre-concentration stage for minerals such as lead and zinc. Many factors affect cyclone performance. This research was done at Lakan lead and zinc plant in Markazi province. The ore sample contains galena and sphalerite as the major minerals and large amounts of silica, calcite, dolomite as gangue minerals. In this research, initial sampling was done and followed by screening analysis and assaying of each size classes. In the experiments, two types of feed with different grade have been used. Considering plant parameters four series of experiments were performed using feed sample graded at 1.1 and 4.4% lead and zinc, respectively. To investigate the three other parameters of dense medium cyclone such a density, inlet pressure and cyclone angle, twelve tests were designed by DX7 software .These tests were done using feed sample graded at 0.5 and 3.1% lead and zinc, respectively. Finally, four parameters of particle size, density, inlet pressure and cyclone angle were optimized to (+1- 6.35 mm), 2 kg / m3, 0.5 bar and 23.87 °, respectively. By applying these optimal parameters the grade and recovery of lead were obtained as 0.71 and 76.38% and the grade and recovery of zinc were obtained as 4.40 and 75.98%, respectively.
